Here’s the movie thing Joel gave me. Jenngo pointed out that he tagged me! I was out of it today. What’s new?

1) Total number of films I own on DVD/video: Around 20. I ain’t a movie person.

2) The last film I bought: A trio of Film Noirs: “Quicksand” “Scarlet Street” and “Suddenly” or the only live Rat Pack performance which was ever recorded, I forget which I got most recently.

3) The last film I watched:
Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy with my mother when I was back home. Poor mom, she was so lost. She forgot to bring her towel.

4) Five films that I watch a lot or that mean a lot to me:

Shakespeare in Love (I’ll admit it.. Chick flick, but it’s done so beautifully! And I know all the lines! *sniffle*)

The Godfather (Just.. a brilliant piece of Cinema. And the book was even better. Really had an effect on my life and my wanting to be in the performing arts).

The Wizard of Oz (Who HASN”T been affected by this movie? It was a staple of growing up. Of purity and beauty.. And devestation and sadness behind it all. Reading the book ‘Was’ by Geoff Ryman really helped as well.)

Peter Pan (In any version. Once more a staple of my childhood. Second favourite fairy tale, but definitely favourite fairy tale movie)

Noises Off (Made for TV move of the play with Carol Brunette, Mark Lynn Baker (my old teacher!!), Michael Caine, Christopher Reeves and various others. Fantastic cast. A movie about a theatre company doing this horrible but wonderful play. I think it’s what really made me go into theatre. I loved that movie, watched it all the time growing up, very possibly shaped my life.)

5) Tag 5 people and have them put this in their journal: ….
1.Koga
2. Mnenvyer
3. madashamlet
4. Muzzie
5. gemsinthewalls

Shadow Court Photos

May 21, 2005 at 6:21 pm (Uncategorized)

Well, did a preliminary photo shoot for the show. It looks pretty good, but we were shooting in bad, bad light. Hopefully they will be photo shop salvagable, but they actually look rather good.

Rehearsals are going well. We’re finished blocking now. Onto character work now!

Just a bit of rejoicing…

May 15, 2005 at 4:02 am (Uncategorized)

This might be a too much info post. As is I’m only posting to certain friends who I actually feel I can share this with, but… still.. if you’re not into TMI, then don’t read on.

Anyway, today, a big relief came. Mr. Monthly visitor. I was really terrified. I’ve never really had a true pregnancy scare before, but last month when I was back in the US, there were… condom issues. First time that’s ever happened to me.

Were I in Canada, it would have been straight off to the clinic with me the next day for the after morning pill, and all would have been fine. That’s a nice little, legal safety net there.

Sadly, though, not so in the US. It’s almost impossible to get, especially when I was away from home and doctors and have no current US insurance. So, even practicing safe sex is risky. No safety net otherwise, and therefore, for a while, I thought I might be in deep shit.

I was really fucking terrified. But, as usual, I don’t much do the confiding thing in people, so I didn’t. Kept quiet. And now I can quietly celebrate the fact that Auntie flo came and all is well in the world, for now at least.

Children are great, when they are other peoples. No time nor money for my own now. Maybe one day. There really should be a parenting license, and right now I wouldn’t have one.

Anyway. Sorry to take up your time, or if you think I’m a horrid, stupid slut now. But I’m relieved and all is well with the world.

Back from Niagara

May 7, 2005 at 2:59 pm (Uncategorized)

Niagara with Christian was muchly fun. I won enough playing poker to pay for my whole trip, and then about 20 dollars over, so that’s muchly good. Free vacations are always nice.

I finally got some photos of the gardens around Niagara. I think we need to have a changeling game there someday before I might have to leave back for the US. (Hint hint, Phil, you wanted to have a mini-changeling convention? Want help?) Here are the photos. It’s so, so clearly fae! I only wish that the trees were in bloom and there was water in the pond. Just means I’ll have to go back in a month and get more photos =):

But yes, very clearly, Niagara is owned by some massively evil unseelie sidhe who loves ravaging all the dreams of gamblers, and otherwise likes to lavish in beauty.

Oh, and Richard and Bowah, sadly Tony Bennett tickets are sold out. Cheap Trick is there next, do you know who they are? I don’t. Ah well.

The Marriage, Part Deux… Or The Travelling Actress

May 2, 2005 at 10:51 pm (Uncategorized)

Alrighty. Down and dirty update.

The wedding was alright. I apparently wasn’t as good at concealing what I felt about things, or… more, I felt worse about it that I was trying to convince myself, as during the ceremony my father’s friend Drew (who isn’t much of a supporter either) was apparently watching me long enough that right after the ceremony ended he said, “Come on, lets go into the bar, I’m buying you a drink.” So we went into the hotel’s bar and he bought me two manhattans and told me I looked as sick as he felt. That about sums up that. I have a few photos, not sure if I’m going to bother posting them or not.

Dear God, please, please let her make him happy. Please don’t let her use him again, or just be in it for the money, or break his heart. Please, just let them be happy.

So, that’s that. I, as mentioned earlier, had an audition for the Renaissance festival tonight, so in order to be certain I got back for the audition, I was up at 6 am to make an 8:30 am flight out of Pittsburgh. Means I got about 2 hours sleep. I slept another hour on the plane, then got stopped by immigration because of the red flag the woman put in my file. We talked through things, I got my luggage, went home.

Slept 2 more hours, then got up and got on a friggin’ GO bus to go out to the auditions in Brampton. But it’s paying, and I have a half decent chance at this, so I thought I’d still go. Finally made it there.

The audition wasn’t bad. Frmo what the people in the hallway said, I nailed my monologue and the song. I couldn’t quite grasp the accents, I haven’t done them in so long. That’ll be the big point against me. And I did fairly well in the improv, so we’ll see.

Oh, yes, BTW, The Ren fest IS still happening. The American investors dropped out and said screw it, but a month ago, all the Canadian vendors and investors said they still wanted to do it, so here we are. Good news for all, ‘speically the changeling game.

Dad getting married…

May 1, 2005 at 4:08 pm (Uncategorized)

Well, I leave for my father’s wedding in 45 minutes. Still not entirely sure how I feel about it. No, that’s a lie. I’m happy for him. I’ve been grown up enough for a long while to say ‘As long as my parent’s are happy, I will support whatever they do’. And it’s true. I just love my mother and father enough that I only,r eally, want them to be happy. I might not entirely think this woman is the best for him, and I’m sure that now that’s his family (She has two kids who are still in grade school, so he’s their new dad, basically). But if he’s happy, and they are in love, I’m cool with it.

I just wish he would have given me more than 5 fucking days notice. He told us tuesday night that we had to be there on Sunday. I was planning on being back in TORONTO on sunday. It seriosuly put a bit of a wrench in my life and the plans I had scheduled, and a wedding is something you really SHOULD give more than 5 days notice for. Blargh. But, well, I’m here. At least he didn’t do something like schedule it during the Fringe Festival and then expect me to be home. It could be worse.

Still, this has been a whirl wind. Who the hell decides to have a big family wedding and do it all in 5 days? If they were going off to Vegas, sure, hell, go right ahead. I’ll go with ya! But a big church, and food, and caterers and 200 people putting their lives on hold because you want to get married this weekend?! That was a bit insane

Just shows that yes, my father considers himself the ruler of this empire and when the ruler says jump, you say How high. Well, I’m jumping in my little black dress and high heels.

And I’ll even read the insanely religious passage from the bible his fiance` wants me to read at the ceremony.

Then I’ll leave for the airport 6 am tomorrow morning to get back to TOronto in time for my Renaissance Festival audition. And tomorrow I’ll be a zombie. That’s life.

Oh, yes, I got called for an audition for the Toronto Renaissance Festival. It wasn’t supposed to happen this year because the Americans pulled out, but apparently the Canadian investors and director got together and it’s going forward. The audition was supposed to be saturday, but when I explained the wedding thing, they guy created a WHOLE NEW AUDITION DAY so he could see me monday. Apparently they’re quite interested in my resume.

Wouldn’t be a bad weekend job for the end of summer.

More updated later. Wedding time now.

Future plannings…

April 27, 2005 at 6:07 pm (Uncategorized)

Alrighty. Not too much to say, not really. I have to wait to get back to Canada to do much in the way of this immigration work, because the offices are up there. In truth, I don’t have much hope. I’ve been dealing with immigration bueacracy for 5 years now, and more than ever they hate Americans. So, looking for jobs elsewhere.

I threw my resume into a job out in San Francisco, teaching drama at an arts-only charter school. They haven’t had the hiring meeting yet, so I’ll hopefully, maybe hear from them in a few days. Otherwise, keep putting in more resumes in San Francisco. I’ll try to keep looking in Toronto, but unless the job is theatre-related, they’re going to turn me down for the same damn reasons they wouldn’t let me take this job. So more and more it’s looking like I’m here until late august, so I can help Richard and Bowah find a new roommate and finish the Fringe show, then I’m gone. Oh well.

On a happy note, I’m thinking of planning a small trip down to Niagara Falls next week (Prolly during the week as it’s signifigantly less expensive). I have nothing to do in may at all except for rehearse this show, which will only be 2-3 times a week until we hit june and crunch time. The casino down there finally put in a Texas Hold’em pit, just player vs player, not against the house, so it’s genuine, fun poker, and a pretty good investiment if you know how to play. My mother and I stopped by on the brief trip we took and I stepped away up a few hundred. I enjoy dumb poker players.

So, anyone interested in going and splitting a room down at the falls? Prolly around 20 bucks a person per night if we can find 2-3 people to go, and go during the week days. Just was a thought. It’s nice and warm and would be a good get away.

-E

PS: Oh. Also considering just moving to Vegas for a year or two to be a dealer. Couldn’t make a life there, but I’d probably write a book or something about experiences there and learn some skills that will at least get me a job dealing where ever. It’d be an adventure, since this whole planning life thing doesn’t seem to be working out well.
